The Hidden Battle: Why Single Veteran Parents Need Our Help

Next Mission: Business Launch

They’ve already served our country—many in combat zones, far from home, carrying the weight of the mission on their shoulders. When they come home, the fight doesn’t end. For single veteran parents, a new kind of battle begins: one fought in doctor’s offices, daycares, and grocery store checkout lines.

In North Carolina alone, more than 26,000 veterans are raising children on their own. Nationally, the numbers are staggering. And the statistics are brutal:

  • 42% of single veteran parents live at or near the poverty line
  • Childcare in military communities routinely costs $900–$1,400 per month per child—often more than they earn
  • Many are forced into rigid shift work or low-wage jobs that offer zero flexibility when a child is sick or a school play comes up

Imagine being a former infantry Marine, now working the night shift at a warehouse because it’s the only job that pays the rent—but missing every single one of your daughter’s soccer games. Imagine being a Navy veteran mom who has to choose between staying home with a feverish toddler or losing a day’s pay she can’t afford to lose.

That’s the reality for thousands of our nation’s heroes.

The Invisible Barrier: Childcare + Inflexible Work

Traditional employment punishes single parents—especially veteran parents who often live in high-cost-of-living areas near bases. The jobs available rarely accommodate school schedules, medical appointments, or the sudden emergencies that come with raising kids alone.

The result? Chronic financial stress, guilt, burnout, and in too many cases, veterans who feel they’ve traded one kind of service and sacrifice for another.

The Solution That Actually Works: Business Ownership

What if instead of forcing these veterans into someone else’s schedule, we gave them the tools to build their own?

Self-employment is the ultimate flexible career. It lets a parent:

  • Work from home or set their own hours
  • Be there for doctor visits, school drop-offs, and bedtime stories
  • Earn uncapped income based on their effort and talent
  • Build something that grows with their family

Veterans are already 30–50% more likely to start businesses than civilians. They have the leadership, resilience, and problem-solving skills forged in the toughest environments on earth.

All they need is the bridge—the childcare, the seed money, the training, and the confidence to take the leap.

That Bridge Is the Veteran Parent Project Incubator

We’re building the nation’s first business incubator designed exclusively for single veteran parents.

Here’s what we give them:

  • 100% free, on-site childcare during every class and mentoring session
  • A $3,500 launch grant and zero-interest forgivable loan
  • A $2,400 training stipend so rent still gets paid while they learn
  • A full year of Quixess-Social (professional website + social media suite)
  • 12 weeks of proven, parent-friendly curriculum with veteran mentors

Graduates walk away with a real, revenue-generating business—and the ability to be the parent their kids deserve.

This Isn’t Charity. It’s Justice.

Every veteran who launches a business through our program doesn’t just change their own life—they change their children’s future. They break the cycle of poverty. They model resilience, work ethic, and courage.

And they prove that the mission never ends—it just changes shape.

Will You Help Us Launch the Next Mission?

We’re piloting in the Charlotte / Fort Liberty area in 2026 with two cohorts of 15 single veteran parents each.

We need partners, donors, mentors, and champions.

  • Want to sponsor a veteran’s $3,500 launch grant?
  • Ready to provide childcare or classroom space?
  • Have a skill or connection that can help these families soar?

Get in touch. Because these veterans have already given everything for us.

Now it’s our turn.
